Becoming a Violinist

The violin is a difficult instrument to master. From the start, violinists must learn proper posture, balancing the instrument on their shoulder, correct left hand position, correct bow hold, and correct bow placement — all while trying to stay relaxed!

The proper set up and technique will help violinists produce better sounds. It is more important to get a solid physical set up on the violin and a lovely sound than it is to move quickly through pieces.

Because it is important for violinists to be able to use both their ear and read music, I use a combination of Suzuki and traditional teaching methods. Music theory is also incorporated into lessons. When we know and understand how music is organized, we can learn faster and play with more confidence. When students are able to read music on their own, they have the ability to learn any piece of music they choose.
